Volunteers

Thank you for giving our kids an opportunity to SHINE!

Event volunteers are essential to the success of VEX competitions, serving as the backbone of these events. Referees ensure fairness, Emcees bring excitement, and Queuers maintain schedules. Participating as a VEX competition volunteer is both accessible and enjoyable, offering a fulfilling experience for all.

It could not run at all without YOU!!!

PLEASE share this page with ANYONE that you think would enjoy volunteering at our competitions.

And let me know if you would like to receive updates, or if you have any questions:  sankeydd@gm.sbac.edu

I'm going to add the other signups once we see how the remote judging goes.  Thank you all for your flexibility.  I will send out a notice when I add the other dates.

Official Volunteering Resources

The official page that covers volunteers is here:  https://volunteers.vex.com/

Everything you need to know is there, but there is a lot of extra stuff!

Head Ref and Judge advisor training is ready to go!

They need to be redone each year, but if you are familiar it shouldn't take more than 20-30 mins.  We must have a certified Head Referee and Judge Advisor for each tournament.  If you're curious about what that entails, you can go through the training anyway to be sure you have a solid idea of what to do.

Remote Judging

Several of these tournaments will use some remote judging.  Those sessions will be after school during the week of the tournament for the team interviews.  While it is an evening commitment, it's really important and it's pretty easy.  You will have a list of questions from a Google Form and just select 1-5 based on how the students responded.  Notebooks will also be graded and can be done at your convenience.  We want to have three judges scheduled for each room so that we will get a good average for the scores.  Two judges are required and if a judge is unable to make it due to an emergency then we can still run the room with two.  We use Zoom breakout rooms so we can get the needed interviews done efficiently.

Possible Remote Judging schedule:

For the above example, I would ask you to be on at 4:15 so I can get everyone in their rooms in time and we will have a couple of minutes to work out any problems.

I'm curious if that time frame works for you, or if you would like later times.  If I have enough judges, I could even do 4 or maybe 5 rooms and that would shorten the shifts or we could even cut one of the dates.
